Over the past month I have been creating a different dummy book each week, this process has been so so helpful for my project and I can’t imagine feeling as good about my project as I do know without doing this process. Not only that it has enabled me to create a solid edit for my project, something I really struggled with prior to making my dummy books.
My books have changed each week, it first began landscape but soon changed after reflexion, that full page bleed images really don’t work as well with a landscape book as they do with portrait. I have also changed to software I was using since my first book, I began using lightroom, it is easier to use than InDesign however, this does not mean it is better. Although it is easier and quicker, it does not give you the creative freedom like InDesign does, lightroom restricts you to certain layouts which I do not like.
Tomorrow I will be completing my final dummy book test (hopefully) I now know how I’d like my book and in what sequence. I still have some images to move about, as someone last week said to be the book should be like a piece of music, instead of the images all being same size, same place and same space they should appear in different positions. I also know have the text I am using! So I will be making final Dummy tomorrow with text which I hope will fit well.
I have recently spoken about Alans slides that I looked through with him the other day, since this I have been receiving different opinions as to whether or not to pursue the idea further whether that be on a light box or through a projector.
I have decided to use a slide projector alongside my images which I am thinking of having several A4 framed images. I have been in the studio with Jamie today testing out the projectors they have here at uni, which would be much better for me to use one of those as they weigh a ton!
Jamie also wanted to check that the projector would be safe to use as he said they do have tendencies to start smoking, which I do not want to happen in the middle of the exhibition.
I was really happy with the results and it has made me excited for whats to come, I love the quality ans the colours it shows and it was fasinating to me as I haven’t ever used a slide projector before. There is also a way of making the slides rotate on the own which is essentinal for the exhbition.
The projector holds 80 slides so I will be going to visit Chan and Alan this week to pick out the slides I would like. Overall I am happy that this will be a part of my work.pr
For the past few weeks, I have felt like I had hit a brick wall with my Final Major Project “Chan & Alan” (name still yet to be considered) I felt that the feedback I was receiving wasn’t as positive has it had been in the past, and subsequently I wasn’t as happy with the images I was making. I decided that I would get all the images from my first edit and show them to Chan and Alan to get them really involved with the project.
I wasn’t sure how this was going to go and whether or not it would help me or make things are difficult as to where I wanted my project to go. I explained to them that showing their relationship was a key aspect of my project.
After I showed them we spoke for awhile about their relationship. This is when I took the photo to the left of Alan. Which is one of my favourites from the shoot.
I will post some others from the shoot when I have edited them.
